Old Alluwe, Oklahoma is a small unincorporated community located in northeastern Oklahoma in Nowata County. It was founded in the early 1800s and was originally called "Keel's Station" after the owner of a local trading post, but was later renamed "Alluwe" after the Cherokee word for "dogwood tree."
The community was once a bustling railroad stop for the Midland Valley Railroad, and many of the original buildings from that time period still stand today. Old Alluwe also played a role in the Civil War, as it was a stop on the Underground Railroad and a site of several skirmishes.
Today, Old Alluwe is a quiet and peaceful community with a population of less than 100. It is home to a few small businesses, a community center, and several historic landmarks, including the Alluwe Cemetery and the Alluwe Methodist Church, which was built in 1896. It is a popular spot for hiking, fishing, and camping, with the nearby Oologah Lake and Keystone Lake providing ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.
